PageMaster/sv Overview

PageMaster/sv is a paging server for PageMaster clients. Using TCP/IP, PageMaster clients can be configured to send pages across the network to PageMaster/sv which in turn issues the page requests to the paging companies. This alleviates the need for individual modems to be used on each PageMaster client. It also centralizes the logging of pages.

Product Features

PageMaster/sv is installed in a single-server configuration. All PageMaster clients are then configured to use the PageMaster/sv server instead of a local modem. PageMaster/sv, however, does not need to be installed on a server machine. It may be installed on any Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows NT4 server or workstation.

Communication between clients and PageMaster/sv is accomplished using TCP/IP. Therefore, it is required that the TCP/IP protocol is installed.

Messages can be sent to multiple pagers or pre-defined groups of pagers. The server also handles a mix of numeric and alphanumeric pagers in the same group, sending just the numeric portions of a message to the numeric pagers and the full message text to alphanumeric pagers.

Error Handling

PageMaster/sv will report back to the originator of the message any problems encountered while trying to deliver the page.

Logging

PageMaster/sv will also maintain a log file (or multiple log files) recording all pages sent. Logs may be kept combined, or stored individually for each pager.

Pager Types

PageMaster/sv supports both numeric and alphanumeric pagers... even simultaneously. For example, suppose a user were to send the message "Please call the Farmington supervisor at 555-1212." to a group of pagers that included a mix of numeric and alphanumeric pagers. The full text of the message would be delivered to the alphanumeric pagers, and the message "555-1212" would be sent to the numeric pagers.

Message Length

PageMaster/sv does not impose a limit on the length of messages that may be sent. PageMaster/sv will automatically split lengthy messages and send them in smaller individual pages that the paging equipment will permit.

Batch Processing

PageMaster/sv is designed to handle the paging needs of even the largest operations. Pages will be batch processed when possible. If 20 page requests are received and 15 of them are alpha pagers from the same paging company, all 15 pages can be sent in a single phone call. The remaining 5 would be sent individually.

Modem Requirements

PageMaster/sv requires at least one Hayes-compatible 2400 baud or faster modem for operation with TAP and DTMF protocols. Multiple modems are supported for load balancing and fault-tolerance.
